The Magnificent Five: Why I Stick to the Basics

What is your favorite form of physical exercise?

Forget the fancy machines. Real strength is built on a foundation of fundamental, powerful movements.
Lunge.

When people ask me about the best workout, I see them bracing for a complex answer involving the latest fitness fad or a convoluted gym routine. My truth is much simpler, and infinitely more effective.

My favorite form of physical exercise isn’t one single thing, but a powerful collection of foundational movements. My answer is: squats, lunges, pushups, planks & pull ups.

These are the basic exercises that are my favourite, especially when done with the added intensity of weights.

Why this magnificent five? Because they aren’t just exercises; they are the pillars of functional strength. They train your body to work as a complete, coordinated system.

· Squats build a powerful foundation, from your glutes to your core.
· Lunges hone your balance and stability with every single rep.
· Pushups are the ultimate test of upper-body pushing strength and core solidarity.
· Planks forge an unshakable midsection, the bedrock of all movement.
· Pull Ups represent the pinnacle of pulling power, sculpting a strong back.

Done with just bodyweight, they are accessible and powerful. But when you add a barbell, dumbbells, or a weight vest, they transform into a relentless strength-building ritual. They are timeless, they are efficient, and they deliver results.

So, while the fitness world chases complexity, I’ll be here, getting stronger with the classics.
